Coyote Village, a 550-bed student housing building at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, has earned a major distinction in the sustainable design arena. The property, developed by Ambling University Development Group through a turnkey design-build contract with the state, has become the first residence hall in South Dakota to earn LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Coyote Village, a new 195,000 sf residence hall at the University of South Dakota has been awarded LEED Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council according to project developer, Ambling University Development Group. This is the University's fourth building constructed to LEED standards, setting the trend for new construction on-campus. Ambling University Development Group has announced its partnership with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for the development of 2,000 new beds of student housing. The company will demolish five existing structures to make way for two new housing communities and a 1,000-space parking deck with street-level commercial space.

The first meal was served Friday afternoon in the new dining hall at North Georgia College & State University -- even though the building is more than six months from completion and the second floor doesn't have any walls. A "topping out" ceremony or celebration typically is held when the final beam is put in place in a major construction project -- marking the milestone of a significant portion of a project being completed. North Georgia's $16.2 million dining hall project is on schedule for completion in fall 2011.

Due to support from the South Georgia College Foundation and the Atkinson-Coffee Economic Development Authority, SGC students, faculty and staff will be dining in style next fall. The SGC cafeteria, currently housed in Engram Hall, will move to the current Nursing/IT Building near Tiger Village I and II, and the Clower Student Center. Ambling University Development Group (AUDG) announces plans to develop three new facilities on campus to include a new student housing residence hall, 10 Special Interest homes and a state-of-the-art dining facility in partnership with Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) of Marietta, Georgia.

The 195,000-sq. ft., 175-unit housing project has been under construction since late May 2009 and is expected to be completed by July 31, 2010, open for students by the beginning of next fall semester, university officials said. For now, all eyes are on Ambling Development Corporation, a Georgia-based contracting company that gave a bid of $25.3 million last year. Working hand-in-hand with Juneau Construction, Ambling was recommended to the university when preliminary plans for Coyote Village were taking place, Van Den Hul said.

South Georgia College’s Clower Center in Douglas received an award for Excellence in Rehabilitation from The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation at its 31st Annual Preservation Awards ceremony Friday, May 15, in Augusta. Built as a gymnasium for SGC in 1936, Clower Hall became a recreation area and then a storage facility for the college following the construction of a new gym in the 1960s. The building had suffered neglect and deterioration during recent years.

North Georgia has selected Ambling University Development to manage the design and construction of the new military and civilian residence halls set to open fall semester 2010. The firm, which was also responsible for building Owen Hall, the university's first privately financed residence hall in 2001, was selected on Feb. 13 through a competitive bidding process.

Georgia Southern University broke ground on its newest student housing venture, Centennial Place, after receiving approval at the University System of Georgia Board of Regents meeting in January. Construction officially began on February 1st by Hardin Construction Company, the project’s general contractor.
