PROJECT DESCRIPTION
|
|
- Adaptive re-use of an existing historic (1936), on-campus gym (Clower Hall) into a multi-purpose student center
- The renovation was a component of the Tiger Village I student housing project, which is directly adjacent to Clower Hall and added the first new beds on campus since 1974
- The renovation was financed through a student activity fee assessment which was voted on and overwhelmingly supported by the SGSC student body
- Key rehabilitation work included re-pointing exterior bricks, repairing original windows, exposing the building's large truss system in the ceiling, adding insulation and providing ADA accessibility
- The Clower Center serves as a student center for SGSC's residential and commuter students as well as hosts alumni gatherings and community groups
- The Clower Center claimed the Award of Excellence in Rehabilitation from The Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation in May of 2009
