PROJECT DESCRIPTION

  • At 234,000 sf, the new Baker and Huger Halls were designed to maximize the efficient use of the 3.27 acre site, while creating a comfortable living community and defining the eastern edge of campus
  • The 4-story buildings have a full masonry façade with cast stone accent panels and window headers to match the historic buildings on campus
  • Each building features a single centralized entry point with two-story lobby, adjacent reception desk, staff office and community amenity areas to promote resident engagement and interaction
  • Resident suites are clustered to create multiple living communities with a central Resident Assistant and lounge on each floor
  • A state-of-the-art access control system allows remote monitoring and programming as well as ability to restrict access to the building, each floor as well as individual wings on a particular floor through a HID system
  • Serving as the initial component of the 2,000 bed first phase of new and renovated housing, the phased delivery of Baker & Huger Halls allowed the University to maintain the existing on-campus housing capacity throughout the development cycle.
  • Project involved the abatement and demolition of two high-rise residence halls built in the 1960's as well as the addition of a 852-space parking deck with street-level commercial space.
